Spanish moss is shipped either fresh, as in just picked out of the trees, or after being "air dried" to lessen the chance of mold. Sheet moss is mostly harvested in the forests of the Carolinas.
We believe that only 5% of the Spanish mosses shipped out of Florida are fumigated. This fumigation is the type that kills only air-breathing insects and critters. This type of fumigation does not kill eggs nor larva and will eventually cause a major reinfestation problem.
